Convenience food as the name suggests are those foods which are easy to cook and consume. Convenience food is commercially prepared food created as an easy way to get and consume. Although these foods are easy to consume and time saving, they are loaded with lots of preservatives, unnatural colouring, added flavours and other unappetizing substances, If consumed on regular basis it can cause serious health issues such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc.

The presence of added flavours and the texture makes a person to crave for more processed food. The body’s ability to digest these foods can be difficult, as these foods become modified when processed. Also these foods typically lack micronutrients which are essential for normal growth and development of our body. Many canned products are high in added sodium, sugar, salt which is dangerous for health if consumed regularly. Some popular convenience foods are packaged chips, canned juices and vegetables, breads, frozen meals, etc.

So instead of taking convenience food one should opt for fresh seasonal produce. Someone has rightly said “Eat what is are grown on plants, not which are grown in plants”.
